A business born from lockdown boredom, Stella the founder of From Sugar Cakes has taken over the ‘vintage’ cake scene with her deliciously colourful creations. Whether it’s for your Bridal shower, engagement party or your wedding cake, Stella has shapes & colours to suit everyone…and we all know Lucy’s loves a pop of colour! WHERE DID THE DREAM BEGIN FOR FROM SUGAR? WHERE DID IT ALL START?

I always love answering this question because I truly never had any intention of starting a business. I was incredibly bored in lockdown with my family, as I was working in hospitality at the time and couldn’t go into work because of the restrictions, and came across a few photos of lunchbox cakes online. I thought they were such a perfect size for 2 or 3 people (aka very lockdown appropriate) so I tried my luck at making a few and posting them on instagram.
It all really kicked off from there, and here we are today!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART ABOUT BEING IN THE INDUSTRY?

There are so many aspects of this industry that I love, but I think knowing that I get to do what I truly love and follow my passion as a career still astounds me to this day. Seeing the happy faces of the people that have ordered from me and all of their kind words makes me so grateful for what I do, and the community I have surrounded myself with.

ANY ADVICE FOR BRIDES CHOOSING A CAKE WITH YOU, OR ANY TRENDS YOU LOVE RIGHT NOW?

I absolutely love doing wedding cakes, and getting to be a part of such a special day is so rewarding. My advice would be not being afraid to step outside of the box a little bit, I’ve had a few wedding cakes that have been such fun colours and designs, and that’s always so exciting for me to create. Also to not be afraid of changing bits and pieces of the design as you go. I can make changes up until the week of the wedding so if you’ve ordered an all white cake with vintage detail, and decide you actually want a few bows or buttercream flowers on there, let me know! I'm always happy to work with you to create the most perfect cake.

Sheet cakes are absolutely trending for weddings right now, they’re more budget friendly, easier to cut and transport and look so beautiful as a centrepiece to a dessert table. I have sheet cakes available on my website but I am always happy to accept any custom designs.
