Figuring out what size marquee you need has always required a call to our team. Now, you can get an instant answer — before you even pick up the phone.
One of the most common questions we get asked is some version of: "We have 80 guests — what size marquee do we need?" The answer has always depended on so many things: how you want to dine, whether you're having a dance floor, where the bar goes, whether there's a stage for a band. It's the kind of question that takes a conversation to answer properly.
Until now.
We've built Lucy's Marquee Size Calculator — an interactive tool exclusively for our clients and anyone planning a marquee event in New Zealand. It's now live in our Wedding Directory, and it's genuinely the fastest way to get a sense of what you need before we talk.
How it works
The calculator is built around our actual marquee range — widths of 3m, 6m, 9m, 10m and 12m, with lengths extending from there. You tell it how many guests you're having, your dining style, and any add-ons you're planning, and it instantly recommends the right size from our real range.
It draws a live indicative floorplan so you can actually see how your layout would look inside the marquee — round tables in a proper grid, rectangle tables in long rows, dance floor and bar zones allocated on the right. It updates in real time as you adjust the sliders.

What you can configure
The calculator handles four dining styles:
Rectangle table dining — 2.4m tables in long rows, the classic marquee look
Round table dining — 1.8m diameter round tables, spaced in a full grid
Cocktail / standing — high tables for a more relaxed, social format
Ceremony only — chairs in rows for a ceremony setup
You can also toggle on add-ons — bridal table (with chairs facing the guests, just like real life), dance floor, bar area, stage or band, and catering station. Every add-on adjusts the recommended size and the floorplan in real time.
It's a guide, not a guarantee
The calculator gives you a genuinely accurate starting point — the space allowances are based on real industry standards and our years of experience setting up marquees across Auckland, the BOP, Waikato, and the lower North Island. But every site is different. Ground conditions, access, the shape of a property — all of these affect the final recommendation. Your floorplan will always be confirmed at your site visit and consultation with Lucy.
