How much does an engagement ring cost in New Zealand?

There is no standard number, and the old rule about months of salary is marketing rather than advice. What moves the price is the stone, the metal, and whether the piece is bespoke or off the shelf. A lab grown diamond costs considerably less than a mined stone of the same size, and an antique ring can land almost anywhere depending on age and condition. Decide your number first, then talk to the jeweller. Every studio on this list will work to a budget if you give them one.

How long does a bespoke engagement ring take?

Allow four to six weeks with most New Zealand studios, longer if an unusual stone needs sourcing or you are reworking an inherited piece. If you have a date in mind for the proposal, start the conversation two to three months out. Ready to ship collections exist for anyone who has left it later than that.

Should you choose the ring together or keep it a surprise?

More couples are choosing together now, and every jeweller on this list is used to both. If you want the surprise but not the risk, take someone who knows their taste in with you.
